Departments

The Institute has five departments comprising three research departments and two non-research departments.

Research Departments

Economic Policy Research Department (EPRD): This Department conducts research and policy analysis on the productive and private sectors of the economy. The Department is responsible for the following:

    • Conduct a wide range of practical socio-economic research with a view to providing inputs and guidelines for long term policy formulation and investment decision in the thematic area.
    • Conduct studies on major changes in the domestic and international scenes that will require changes in existing policies across all the productive sector and private sector areas.
    • Conduct studies on the impact of existing policies and programmes of government and recommend shifts or adjustments where necessary.
    • Conduct studies on public finance and related issues.
    • Coordinate trainings, conferences and workshops relevant to the department.

The Department has two Working Groups:

  • Private Sector Group: which conduct Policy research into:
    1. Business Environment Employment Generation
    2. Corporate Governance
    3. Public–Private Partnership Models
    4. Financial Services
    5. Trade and Commerce

Facilitate trainings/workshops and conferences aligned to the private sector

  • Productive Sector Group: which conduct Policy research on the following areas
    1. Agriculture
    2. Energy
    3. Housing
    4. Oil and Gas
    5. Transport
    6. Minerals Development
    7. Manufacturing
    8. Technology and Innovation
    9. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
    10. Communication
    11. Tourism

Facilitate trainings / workshops and conferences aligned to the productive sector.

Social and Governance Policy Research Department (SGPRD): This Department conducts research and policy analysis on the social and public sectors of the economy. The Department is responsible for the following:

    • Conduct a wide range of practical research with a view to provide inputs and guidelines for long term policy formulations aimed at improving governance and raising human development index across all groups in Nigeria .
    • Conduct studies on major changes in the domestic and international scenes that will require changes in existing policies across the entire social and public sector areas.
    • Conduct studies on the impact of existing policies and programmes of government and recommend shifts or adjustments where necessary.
    • Coordinate trainings, conferences and workshops relevant to the department.

The Department has two Working Groups:

  • Public Sector Group: which conduct Policy research on the following areas:
    1. Governance
    2. Public Administration
    3. Bilateral agreements (AGOA, WTO, etc)
    4. Facilitate trainings/workshops and conferences aligned to the private sector
  • Social Sector Group: which conduct Policy research on the following areas:
    1. Health
    2. Education
    3. Labour and Industrial Relations
    4. HIV/AIDS
    5. Gender and Inclusion
    6. Youth Development
    7. Rural Development
    8. Land
    9. Environment
    10. Facilitate trainings/workshops and conferences aligned to the Social sector.

Surveillance and Forecasting Department (SFD): This Department has the mandate to model, analyze, forecast and monitor developments in Nigeria and the world economy with the view of generating credible socio-economic information for stakeholders.

The Department has two Working Groups:

  • Modelling Group
  • Macro Group

Non-Research Departments

Policy Engagement and ICT Department (PE & ICTD): This Department is responsible for disseminating the Institute’s research outputs to policy makers and other relevant stakeholders; facilitating networking between NISER, universities and other relevant organizations nationally and internationally; and strengthening policy engagement with key audiences, including Nigerian Governments, the private sector, civil society organizations, development partners and the media.

The Department has three divisions as follows:

    2. Marketing Unit
  • ICT Division
  • Institute Library

Administration and Finance Department (AFD): This Department has the mandate to provide support services in the areas of personnel management, procurement and maintenance, records management, and finance and accounts.

The Department has three divisions and six units as follows:

    1. Administration, Promotions and Discipline (APD) Unit
    2. Establishments, Training and Records (ETR) Unit
    3. Procurement and Maintenance Division (PMD)
    4. Procurement Unit
    5. Maintenance Unit
  • Finance and Accounts Division (FAD)
    1. Finance Unit
